Why you need to update your HS codes this year

Why You Need To Update Your HS Codes This Year

On the 1st of January 2022, a major revision of HS codes will come into effect that only happens once every five years. Making sure you’ve completed your annual HS codes check is especially important before this deadline.

Customer action required

HS codes (Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System) are used to organise and trade your merchandise. The World Customs Organisation makes small revisions to the list of HS codes once a year and a major revision once every five years. These revisions include the addition of new HS codes or changes to existing ones. Therefore it is very important to do an annual check or your data to avoid any issues during the customs clearance process.

We advise you not to leave this until the last minute. The revision coming to effect on 1st of January is significant, and not complying because your HS codes are out of date may affect your cross-border shipments.

If you need any help with your HS codes, our partner Hurricane are ready to assist you with their data enhancement tool. You can find more information about HS codes here or from the World Customs Organization.

Please make sure your HS codes have been checked with plenty of time before the deadline, and don’t hesitate to contact us if you need any assistance. Thank you for your cooperation.
